Minnesota Cowgirls Met the Challenge!

September 25-26, 2010 was a fun & fulfilling weekend for three Minnesota cowgirls who competed at the National Versatility Ranch Horse Association Finals in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In addition to competing at their individual levels of Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced, Kathy Wyatt, Kim Deters, and Susan Heyvaert joined forces to compete in the second annual Affiliate Challenge.
The Challenge competition required there be one novice, intermediate, and advanced on a team. Each affiliate put together a team or teams (you are allowed as many teams as you like). The scores from each of five events; Ranch riding, Ranch trail, Ranch cutting, Working ranch, and Ranch Conformation are are then added at the end of the weekend and the top score wins.
At the end of the first day, the Northern Lights team was 20 points behind. But, with strong performances by all three riders, particularly Kim Deters, who caught and stopped her cow in Working Ranch, the team edged out one of the Colorado teams for top honors!
The girls were thrilled to beat states who have been in this versatility venue for far more years than we have been.
